The study of liquid-gas or solid-gas multiphase flows is critical for understanding fundamental breakup processes, improving mixing, and maximizing efficiency in combustion systems. In order to study these systems, diagnostics like particle doppler phase analysis, Mie scattering, and digital holography are often applied. These techniques are used to characterize droplet sizes, densities, and velocities as well as understand droplet breakup timescales. By improving our understanding of these processes, we can validate fluid breakup models, improve injector designs, and characterize interactions between fluids, gases, particles, shockwaves, and structures.
